Basketball Recap: Dougherty Victorious

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Dougherty ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 66-65 victory over the Monroe Golden Tornadoes. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Golden Tornadoes back in January, they had to take a 60-58 defeat.

Dougherty had a senior duo take command as Kaleke Singletary-Jinks went 6 of 14 on his way to 21 points and eight rebounds and Jaquavus Hallman went 6 for 10 to rack up 15 points and five boards. Singletary-Jinks continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jawuan Jinks Jr, who posted 11 points.

Loss or not, Monroe got some senior leadership from James Adams and Lorenzo Still. Adams put up 12 points, while Still went 6 of 9 en route to 15 points. Adams is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last eight games he's played. Brayden Burns was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Dougherty is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 35.1% in those games and 24.3% outside of them. As for Monroe, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 14-9.

Dougherty didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-41 win against Bainbridge on the 4th. As for Monroe, they have also already played their next match, a 74-34 victory against Cairo on the 3rd.
