Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, the Hancock Hawks couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They were dealt a 48-20 loss at the hands of West Jones on Friday. While losing is never fun, Hancock can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 40th, while West Jones is ranked fourth).
Hancock's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Moran, who threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Schaefer, who picked up 142 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Hancock bumped their record down to 8-4 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely West Jones, Picayune, and Pascagoula. As for West Jones, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Hancock does not have any more games scheduled as of now. West Jones will square off against Terry at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
