Springstead has gone 8-2 against Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Springstead Eagles will welcome the Central Bears at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Springstead: 3.3, Central: 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Springstead is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering River Ridge just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 8-1 to the Royal Knights. The matchup marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Springstead got a good showing from Himanchall Persaud, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off six hits.
At the plate, Springstead saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Billy Ward, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Central). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Fivay a 23-0 shutout on Wednesday. With that win, the Bears brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Jayden Warren and Jacob Lugo made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Warren tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Lugo tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Warren posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Warren scored three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Lugo went 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Talyn Poole was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan King, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Springstead's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Central, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Springstead took their win against Central when the teams last played on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-1. Will Springstead repeat their success, or does Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
