Mt. Carmel is 7-2 against Fallbrook since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Mt. Carmel Sundevils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fallbrook Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mt. Carmel came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Valley Center 71-52.
It was another big night for Gianni Bernabe, who scored 23 points along with seven assists. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Raymond Hourani, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Fallbrook had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They claimed a resounding 66-26 win over Classical Academy on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Fallbrook has managed all season.
Among those leading the charge was Malaki Brotherton, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Samuel Carmona was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Mt. Carmel is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Fallbrook, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Mt. Carmel hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 62.9 points per game. However, it's not like Fallbrook struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 51.3 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything came up roses for Mt. Carmel against Fallbrook in their previous matchup back in February of 2022 as the squad secured a 81-40 victory. Will Mt. Carmel repeat their success, or does Fallbrook have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
