The Casey-Westfield Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Greenfield/Northwestern Tigers at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Casey-Westfield comes in on three and Greenfield/Northwestern on ten.
Casey-Westfield stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Cumberland at home to the tune of 49-7. Casey-Westfield pushed the score to 49-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Cumberland cut but never quite recovered from.
Connor Sullivan was his usual excellent self, rushing for 179 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Sullivan is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last seven games he's played. Luke Karras and his 145 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Casey-Westfield's victory.
Meanwhile, Greenfield/Northwestern put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Nokomis 52-13 at home. Given Greenfield/Northwestern's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Nokomis is ranked 375th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Kohen Vetter, who rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Vetter's longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Pembrook, who threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes.
Casey-Westfield's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.0 points per game. As for Greenfield/Northwestern, their win bumped their record up to 10-0.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Saturday's game as Casey-Westfield and Greenfield/Northwestern haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Casey-Westfield commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.3 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Greenfield/Northwestern struggles in that department as they've been even better at 6.1 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Saturday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
