Penasco is 2-8 against Mora since April of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Panthers will host the Rangers at 3:00 p.m. Penasco has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
McCurdy hit Penasco with a seven-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers came up short against the Bobcats, falling 11-1.
Penasco saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Noll, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mora). Everything went their way against To'hajiilee on Saturday as they made off with a 23-3 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Rangers as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Marcus Vigil made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mora is 2-1 when Vigil allows two or fewer hits, but 1-7 otherwise. Vigil was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three doubles. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Diego Atencio was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, five stolen bases, and five runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was James Cruz, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Mora was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Penasco's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Mora, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Penasco has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mora struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Penasco might still be hurting after the 20-10 defeat they got from Mora when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
