The Chaparral Wolverines will venture away from home to take on the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Chaparral is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Highlands Ranch 18-8 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wolverines considering their one-run performance the match before.

The team relied heavily on Cal Tiner, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those five hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh McWilliams, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Chaparral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Mountain Vista waltzed into their game on Monday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Sabercats an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Golden Eagles have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Chase Ruden, who gave up just four hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Castle View off the board. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Ruden.
On the hitting side, Anthony Mitchell and Alex King did most of the damage at the plate: Mitchell went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while King went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that Mitchell has launched this season. Cole Bobbin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
Mountain Vista pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Chaparral, they moved to 11-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chaparral has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mountain Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Chaparral came out on top in a nail-biter against Mountain Vista in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
