The Overland Trailblazers will head out on the road to face off against the ThunderRidge Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Overland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully ThunderRidge likes a good challenge.
Even though Denver East scored an imposing 61 points on Monday, Overland still came out on top. Overland narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Denver East 63-61. The victory was all the more spectacular given Overland's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Denver East is ranked fifth).
Siraaj Ali and Isreal Littleton were among the main playmakers for Overland as the former scored 18 points and the latter scored 26 points. Littleton set a new season high mark in points with 26. Another player making a difference was Aidan Perez, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, ThunderRidge waltzed into Saturday's matchup with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 62-55 win over Valor Christian. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
ThunderRidge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tommy Wight, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The game was Wight's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Andrew Crawford was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
The win got Overland back to even at 2-2. As for ThunderRidge, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Overland suffered a grim 83-63 defeat to ThunderRidge in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Overland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
