The Westfield Mustangs were the 40-35 winner over the Spring Lions when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Westfield took a 59-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Spring on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Westfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 692nd, while Spring is ranked 217th).
Spring's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylah Lumar, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Mariah Goodjoint was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Westfield's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-10. As for Spring, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.
Westfield will head out on the road to face off against MacArthur at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Spring, they will be playing at home against Nimitz at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nimitz will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
