Basketball Game Preview: Oakwood Academy Mustangs vs. John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers

The Oakwood Academy Mustangs will face off against the John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Oakwood Academy has five straight wins, John Carroll Catholic has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Oakwood Academy will bounce into Monday's game after beating Skyline, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Oakwood Academy snuck past Skyline with a 53-48 victory two weeks ago. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly five points.

Oakwood Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bruklyn Dublin out in front who posted 16 points and six steals. Dublin's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Joanna Caldwell, who made all 6 shots she took to post 12 points in addition to six boards and three blocks.

Oakwood Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 58-23, which was the final score in John Carroll Catholic's tilt against Wenonah on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while the Dragons are ranked 29th).

Oakwood Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points per game. As for John Carroll Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.
