Woodland has won four straight games at home, while Columbia River has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Beavers will welcome the Rapids at 4:30 p.m. Woodland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.7 runs per game this season.
Woodland's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Hudson's Bay with a sharp 28-0 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Beavers needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Gracelynn Huffman made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Woodland got a massive performance out of Brynn Skelton, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Skelton has posted since back in March. Madison Walker was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Woodland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Ridgefield hit Columbia River with a four-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rapids came up short against the Spudders, falling 13-7. The Rapids haven't had much luck with the Spudders recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Ava Pratoussy was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Zaya Ehlers-Bakacs, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Woodland is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games. As for Columbia River, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Woodland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. However, it's not like Columbia River struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woodland took their victory against Columbia River when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 13-5 score. Will the Beavers repeat their success, or do the Rapids have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
