The Triton Hawks will take on the Harnett Central Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Triton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Triton came into this matchup off a tough seven-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Pine Forest by a score of 7-5 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hawks have suffered since April 9, 2024.
Brayden Bates put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Bates was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Chase Sewell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Harnett Central). They blew past E.E. Smith 21-1 on Thursday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Golden Bulls recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Zak Kerns looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.
On the hitting side, Brantley Champion and Brayden Sears did most of the damage at the plate: Champion scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Sears scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Champion has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rylan Wester, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1.
Harnett Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Harnett Central's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Triton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Triton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Harnett Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
