Baseball Recap: Lucy Beckham Comes Up Short

If Lucy Beckham was feeling good fresh off their 9-2 takedown of Berkeley last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Lucy Beckham fell just short of Berkeley by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday. The Bengals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Stags earlier this season, when they won 9-2.

Levi Srock was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Ryan Roggin was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Lucy Beckham's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Riles Morris, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Lucy Beckham hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Lucy Beckham has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. The win got Berkeley back to even at 4-4.

While Lucy Beckham had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
