Bishop and La Jolla are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Knights will welcome the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Bishop's took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let University City get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. Considering the Knights have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sydney Mafong made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bailey Brightenburg was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Maia Brunner, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, La Jolla had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against La Jolla Country Day on Tuesday as they made off with an 18-8 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their one-run performance the game before.
The team relied heavily on Savannah Putnam, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Ella Pearl was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
La Jolla hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive matchups.
Bishop's now has a winning record of 4-3. As for La Jolla, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.
La Jolla's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bishop's has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for La Jolla, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Bishop's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bishop's got the 'W' in their previous meeting two weeks ago against La Jolla by a conclusive 21-4 score. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
