Clay City is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Edgewood is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Eels will welcome the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Clay City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Clay City proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 18) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Linton-Stockton, sneaking past 2-1.
Charli Walters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Clay City saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karlee Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Edgewood). Everything went their way against Cloverdale on Thursday as they made off with a 20-1 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won 16 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
ALLY BLAND was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). BLAND was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, JAYDEN STEPHENS was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was SYDNEY AUSTIN, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Edgewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 12 consecutive contests.
Clay City's win bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Edgewood, their victory bumped their record up to 21-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Clay City has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Edgewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clay City came out on top in a nail-biter against Edgewood in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Do the Eels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
