The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Oxford Prep in their matchups with Vance Charter: they've now lost five in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Oxford Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is AleYaun Heggie. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Heggie has scored all season. Justin Thomas was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Vance Charter found their leader in underclassman Gary Wilkins, who scored 17 points. Wilkins is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nick Pentoney, who scored 12 points.
Oxford Prep has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-7 record this season. As for Vance Charter, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxford Prep will challenge Eno River at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Vance Charter, they will head out on the road to square off against Henderson Collegiate at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Henderson Collegiate is on a four-game streak of home wins, Vance Charter a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
