Sabino is a perfect 4-0 against Cholla since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Sabino will welcome Cholla at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Cholla will be up against a hot Sabino squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Sabino came out on top against Marana by a score of 11-7 on Tuesday.
Avery Nielson made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Nielson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alannis Ochoa, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Aguirre, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Sabino lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cholla). They were the clear victors by a 28-10 margin over Amphitheater on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.
Like Sabino, Cholla also got a great game from a two-way player: Isabella Pratti. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pratti was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Maiya Encinas was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Nallely Contreras was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Sabino pushed their record up to 7-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Cholla, their win bumped their record up to 2-6.
Sabino took their victory against Cholla in their previous meeting back in March of 2020 by a conclusive 17-6. Will Sabino repeat their success, or does Cholla has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
