The Apollo Hawks lost to the Kellis Cougars back in January, but the Apollo Hawks didn't allow the Kellis Cougars the same satisfaction on Monday. Apollo blew past Kellis, posting a 76-47 win on the road. Given Apollo's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Kellis is ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Apollo's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah White, who scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was DeQuean Bryant, who scored 14 points.
Apollo is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Kellis, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apollo will be home for the holidays to greet Ironwood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ironwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten contests -- so hopefully Apollo likes a good challenge. As for Kellis, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Willow Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Willow Canyon is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
