Mesa Ridge is 3-0 against Pueblo East since December of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Mesa Ridge Grizzlies will head out on the road to face off against the Pueblo East Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Sand Creek scored an imposing 67 points on Friday, Mesa Ridge still came out on top. Mesa Ridge walked away with a 74-67 victory over Sand Creek.
Mesa Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tanner Widic, who scored 26 points. Another player making a difference was Tevin Riehl, who scored 18 points along with 8 steals and 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Pueblo East sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-53 win over Piedra Vista on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given Pueblo East's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 103rd in Colorado, while Piedra Vista is ranked 30th in New Mexico).
Pueblo East can attribute much of their success to Jaden Garcia, who scored 29 points along with 5 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ramon Venegas, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds.
Mesa Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Pueblo East, their victory bumped their record up to 1-2.
Everything came up roses for Mesa Ridge against Pueblo East in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 69-19 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mesa Ridge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
