The Kennedy Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 65-44 loss at the hands of Monterey Trail. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Kennedy in their matchups with Monterey Trail: they've now lost five in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Kennedy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aharon Young. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dondre Prothro, who scored ten points.
Brandon Gibson Jr was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with six rebounds for Monterey Trail. That makes it four consecutive games in which Gibson Jr has scored at least 25% of Monterey Trail's points. Rashawn Inglemon was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Kennedy's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Monterey Trail, their win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kennedy will take on River City at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. River City is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Monterey Trail, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Grant at 7:30 p.m. Grant is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
