Newberg had to kick off their season with an away game, and unfortunately wound up with a long bus ride home. They took a 14-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Salem. The game was a 7-7 toss-up at halftime, but Newberg was outplayed in the second half.
Senior Elijah Enomoto-haole, who picked up 60 yards on the ground and accumulated 114 passing yards, was a major factor in the success. This was the first contest for both squads, starting Newberg off on the wrong foot at 0-1, while giving South Salem a 1-0 record.
Newberg will be defending their home turf for the first time next week when they go up against Grants Pass at 7:00 PM. South Salem are packing up and heading on the road for the first time this season. They face off against Sunset next week at 7:00 PM.
