Brownfield moved up to 632 from 660 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region I District 2. The Cubs climbed the ranks as a result of beating Kermit 35-18.
Brownfield made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,521 from 6,862. The improvement came about via a 35-18 victory over the Yellow Jackets last week.
Lamesa's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Kolt Moreland threw for 110 and one touchdown and Ryan Garza had 52 yards receiving. On the ground Moreland chipped in 46 yards. Ramon Arguellas helped Lamesa's passing attack out by catching two balls for 33 yards.
The Tornadoes' Moreland and Garza have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Moreland has thrown for 2141 yards this season, while Garza has 53 catches for 725 yards. Koal Houchin from Idalou leads the league in rushing with 708 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Slaton takes on Denver City. At the moment, the Tigers are in third, while the Mustangs are in second.
Denver City led 2A-1 Region I District 2 in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Lamesa.
