Softball Recap: Palmyra Triumphs

Palmyra proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by six) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Carlisle Thundering Herd 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted against the Thundering Herd since May 17, 2022.

Anna Crawford and Emalyn Funck made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Crawford tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Funck struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Crawford has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Crawford went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Funck went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double was Funck's first of the season.

In other batting news, Ellie Bullard was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Sophie Cunningham was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

The victory got Palmyra back to even at 2-2-1. As for Carlisle, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Palmyra will host Lower Dauphin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Carlisle, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Red Land at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
