Valley View is 0-5 against Vela since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Valley View Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Vela Sabercats at 6:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Valley View has struggled recently with 13 losses in a row, while Vela will arrive with ten straight wins.
Last Tuesday, Valley View had to suffer through a rough 76-9 loss at the hands of Pioneer. Valley View has not had much luck with Pioneer recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Meanwhile, Vela didn't have too much trouble with Sharyland on the road on Tuesday as they won 53-34. Given Vela's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while Sharyland is ranked 1190th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Janai Coleman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was her tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gg Betancourt, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Valley View's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7. As for Vela, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
Valley View was taken down by Vela 83-13 when the teams last played back in January. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Valley View was down 44-3.
