The Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 56-23 loss at the hands of Lapel. Guerin Catholic lost against Lapel in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 72-24 score last time.
Despite the loss, Guerin Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Gianna Morelli scored 9 points along with 13 rebounds. Morelli scored a full 39.1% of Guerin Catholic's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Madelyn Poynter continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lapel, scoring 27 points. Another player making a difference was Laniah Wills, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds.
Guerin Catholic has yet to win a game at home this season, leaving them with a 1-5 record. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.7 points per game. As for Lapel, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Guerin Catholic will head out on the road to face off against Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lapel, they will be playing at home against Alexandria-Monroe at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Alexandria-Monroe is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
