The Palmer Bulldogs suffered their biggest loss since December 7, 2023 on Friday. They took a serious blow against Rice, falling 62-35. Palmer was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-10.
Palmer's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenli Dobie, who scored 12 points. Reagan Davis was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Palmer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. This was only their 12th loss (out of 18 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Saniya Burks was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 47 points, nine rebounds, and 12 steals for Rice. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which Burks has scored at least a third of Rice's points. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Nezar, who scored five points along with four steals.
Palmer has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Rice, their win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4.
Palmer will take on Malakoff at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Malakoff has 15 straight wins, Palmer has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field. As for Rice, they will head out on the road to face off against Kemp at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Kemp is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
