After flying high against the Mabank Panthers last Friday, The Kaufman Lions came back down to earth. The game between Kaufman and Sulphur Springs wasn't particularly close, with Kaufman falling 35-20. Kaufman was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sulphur Springs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Despite the loss, Kaufman still got an impressive performance from Kylevon Morrow, who rushed for 180 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry.
Sulphur Springs was led to victory by Skylar Lewis and Brady Driver. Lewis picked up 264 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Driver threw for 401 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes. Lewis' longest reception was for an incredible 86 yards.
Kaufman's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Sulphur Springs, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Kaufman will be playing at home against Community at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sulphur Springs, they will head out on the road to face off against Anna at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Anna is on a five-game streak of home wins, Sulphur Springs a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
