The Centennial Coyotes will head out on the road to face off against the Liberty Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Centennial extended their postseason success on Saturday against Basha. They walked away with a 35-27 victory over the Bears. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Centennial.
Centennial's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenneth Worthy, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 75 receiving yards. Worthy's longest rush was for an incredible 92 yards. Hayden Allen also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Liberty had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.3 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Highland 54-12 at home. The result was nothing new for Liberty, who have now won nine matches by 28 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Navi Bruzon, who rushed for 67 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Braylon Gardner, who picked up 134 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 11-1.
Things could have been worse for Centennial, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 36-17 loss to Liberty in their previous matchup on November 3rd. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Liberty's Bruzon, who threw for 371 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 15.5 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 139 yards while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Now that Centennial knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
