KAITLYN MARSH spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, KARA LINDENMUTH was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of ILY NANTHAVINH, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Maine West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Niles North earned an 8-5 win over Lincoln Park on Saturday.
The team relied heavily on Sophia Espinoza, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs. Amaya Kang was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Maine West's record now sits at 9-1. As for Niles North, their record is now 8-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Maine West hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Niles North struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Maine West came out on top in a nail-biter against Niles North in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
