Denmark will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Milton Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Denmark came into Friday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against South Forsyth by a score of 59-50 last Friday. The win was just what Denmark needed coming off of a 76-46 loss in their prior contest.
Denmark's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emma Hempker, who scored 22 points along with two steals. Avery Huffman was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Milton had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.6 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They walked away with a 53-42 victory over South Forsyth. Given Milton's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the War Eagles are ranked 143rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Milton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nya Smith out in front who scored 26 points along with five steals. Smith is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 16 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Young, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Denmark's victory bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Milton, they pushed their record up to 20-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Denmark have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 22.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Milton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Denmark was taken down by the Eagles 76-46 when the teams last played two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Smith, who scored 30 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Now that Denmark knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
