Make it seven blowout wins for the Sotomayor Wolves this season. They really took it to Maywood Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 79-42 victory at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 51-25.
Bryan Hernandez was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Hernandez is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Denzell Guzman was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Maywood Academy still got an impressive performance from Fernando Payan, who shot 8-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 24 points and 16 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Payan scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis ALEGRIA, who scored six points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Maywood Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sotomayor pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Sotomayor is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for Maywood Academy, their loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sotomayor will take on Marquez at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Marquez will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Maywood Academy, they will be playing at home against Maywood CES at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
