The Veterans Warhawks's game on Wednesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They snuck past Tift County with a 54-48 victory. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Veterans has scored all year.
Veterans was led to victory by Chandler Thomas and Antonio ??tone?? scott. Thomas scored 20 points along with eight rebounds, while ??tone?? scott dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Thomas has scored at least 25% of Veterans' points. Tristen Abner was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 12 rebounds.
Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was TeShawn Bryant, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Corey Howard, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Tift County were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Veterans only racked up four assists.
Veterans has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Tift County, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Veterans will take on Perry at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Perry will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 441st, while Veterans is ranked 141st). As for Tift County, they will head out on the road to face off against Thomas County Central at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Thomas County Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
