The Eldon Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Eugene Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Eldon had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Cole Camp on Monday. The Mustangs never let the Blue Birds get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, Eugene entered their tilt with Fayette on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Falcons. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.
Drew Hart made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Sam Schulte was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeffrey Schulte, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Eugene always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .720. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fayette only posted an OBP of .231.
The victory got Eugene back to even at 6-6. As for Eldon, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-5.
Eldon skirted past Eugene 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
