East Haven is a perfect 7-0 against Shelton since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Yellowjackets will host the Gaels at 4:00 p.m.
East Haven is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Foran, who was ranked third at the time (East Haven was ranked 23rd). The Yellowjackets lost 10-0 to the Lions on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Yellowjackets have suffered against the Lions since April 8, 2015.
Meanwhile, Shelton entered their tilt with Sacred Heart Academy on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over Sacred Heart Academy. While the Gaels didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Sammi Denihan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Shelton got a massive performance out of Avery Wheeler, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jeanise Serrano, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Shelton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Shelton's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for East Haven, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3.
East Haven took their win against Shelton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Do the Yellowjackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gaels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
