The Pearl City Chargers will head out on the road to take on the Campbell Sabers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Pearl City's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Campbell's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Thursday, Pearl City didn't have quite enough to beat 'Aiea and fell 9-8.
Logan Honma and Ian Wicklund stepped up to the plate in a big way. Honma scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Wicklund went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI Wicklund has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayson Au Hoy, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Even though they lost, Pearl City hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Campbell). Everything went their way against Waipahu on Wednesday as Campbell made off with a 16-5 victory. With that win, the Sabers brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Isaac Lemos made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Campbell got a massive performance out of Jayden Pacariem, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that Pacariem snagged this season. Jonah Yacap was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
The victory made it two in a row for Campbell and bumps their season record up to 2-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pearl City, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2-2.
Pearl City was able to grind out a solid win over Campbell in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 8-5. Will Pearl City repeat their success, or does Campbell have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
