Gloucester Catholic came out on top against Washington Township on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run fifth inning. The Rams blew past the Minutemen 11-1. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Minutemen recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Eddie Pinero was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Joey D'Alessandro looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
Back at the plate, Braeden Lipoff was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Mike Angelo also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Gloucester Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington Township only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Gloucester County Tech was a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They fell 7-2 to Pennsville Memorial. Gloucester County Tech's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Gloucester Catholic's record now sits at 17-4. As for Gloucester County Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 15-9-1.
Everything went Gloucester Catholic's way against Gloucester County Tech when the teams last played back in April, as Gloucester Catholic made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
