Michael Gooden was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds. What's more, he also posted a 76% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Garrett Anderson, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.
Hamilton was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, University was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were beaten by Westchester 94-46. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 819th, while the Comets are ranked 58th).
Hamilton will have to keep a close watch on Kahmron Hill and Orpheu Cummings, a pair of players who had a big impact on University's prior game. Hill went 6-for-10 on his way to 16 points, while Cummings went 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points. Hill is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played.
Hamilton's win bumped their record up to 11-16. As for University, their loss dropped their record down to 9-15.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Hamilton has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 32.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Hamilton strolled past University when the teams last played two weeks ago by a score of 71-52. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Hill, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Hamilton still be able to contain Hill? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
