Squalicum is 1-8-1 against Lakewood since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Storm will host the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Squalicum has given up an average of 19.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Saturday just wasn't the day for Squalicum's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 12-0 to Lynden Christian, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Surprisingly, this marked the Storm's fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Meanwhile, Lakewood earned a 7-4 victory over Blaine on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Katie Krueger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Avery Hite was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cassidy Wolfe, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Lakewood's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-10. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Squalicum, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.
Squalicum's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Storm have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lakewood, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Squalicum continue to outrun the ball?
Squalicum might still be hurting after the 30-2 defeat they got from Lakewood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Storm avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
