The Boyle County Rebels will head out on the road to square off against the Sayre Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Boyle County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Sayre's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Wednesday, Boyle County didn't have quite enough to beat West Jessamine and fell 6-5. The Rebels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Boyle County got a good showing from Roman Smith, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Boyle County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Milburn, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. That run was Milburn's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Sayre made easy work of Henry Clay on Wednesday and carried off a 10-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Sayre also got a great performance from Jaxson Howard as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Howard has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sayre let Jaxon Herrera and Gary Gibson run wild. Herrera scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Gibson fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Camden Stout, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.
Sayre lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Sayre pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Boyle County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Boyle County was able to grind out a solid win over Sayre in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 8-3. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
