The Lowellville Rockets will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Memorial Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Lowellville will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Springfield on Friday. The Rockets put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 20-8 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.
Alyssa Kuzan was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Giuliana Alfano was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Memorial). They blew past Western Reserve 21-7 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Red Devils considering their two-run performance the game before.
Ramani Adams made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up five earned runs off three hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mileena Williams, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emily Cleland, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.
Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .660. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Memorial's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lowellville, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Lowellville suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Memorial when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Will the Rockets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
