Two dominant signal callers in Sloan Pelican and Quinten Myers are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Johnson-Brock Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Johnson-Brock knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Anselmo-Merna likes a good challenge.
Johnson-Brock put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 58-0 win over Winside at home. Given Johnson-Brock's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked third, while Winside is ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Johnson-Brock got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hayden Gravatt out in front who rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Gravatt was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards. Another player making a difference was Pelican, who threw for 160 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 passes.
Meanwhile, Anselmo-Merna didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Boyd County on Thursday, but they still walked away with a 30-24 victory. The win was just what Anselmo-Merna needed coming off of a 56-6 defeat in their prior matchup.
Myers was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 73 yards and three touchdowns. Another big playmaker for Anselmo-Merna was Josiah Griffith, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Johnson-Brock's victory was their ninth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 47 points. As for Anselmo-Merna, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
