The Yulee Hornets will head out to take on the Suwannee Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Yulee's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 15-0 margin over Cedar Creek Christian. Considering the Hornets' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Anderson Hammond made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hammond was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).
In other batting news, Evan Wands was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Two bases. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Giovannoni, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Yulee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Suwannee had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 10-5.
Jace Moran made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on G Garcia, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
Suwannee's record now sits at 7-5. As for Yulee, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-7 record.
Yulee couldn't quite get it done against Suwannee when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-2. Can Yulee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
