The Whitney Wildcats will take on the Rocklin Thunder at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Rocklin will be up against a hot Whitney team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. The Wildcats put the hurt on St. Francis with a sharp 12-4 victory on Monday.
The team relied heavily on Brooklyn Steele, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Grace Boyd, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
Whitney hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, while Rocklin put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Davis Sr. The Thunder blew past the Blue Devils 10-0. The Thunder haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Payton Prior was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Prior was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Katie Wetteland was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Savannah Lorenzini was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Whitney pushed their record up to 19-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rocklin, their victory bumped their record up to 18-5.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Whitney hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Rocklin struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Whitney came up short against Rocklin in their previous matchup back in April, falling 7-3. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
