The Rocket City Falcons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Evangel Christian Lightning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rocket City will be strutting in after a victory while Evangel Christian will be coming in after a loss.
Rocket City put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Master's Hand Christian 69-19 on the road. With that win, Rocket City brought their scoring average up to 50.7 points per game.
Rocket City had a senior duo take command as MacKenzie Baker scored 26 points along with four steals and Elizabeth ( Bess ) Shea dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. Shea has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Rose Carter, who scored eight points.
While Evangel Christian couldn't quite beat Tuscaloosa Home Educators on Tuesday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 59-point defeat they were dealt on Thursday. Evangel Christian fell just short of Tuscaloosa Home Educators by a score of 51-48. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Evangel Christian came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while Tuscaloosa Home Educators is ranked 345th).
The victory makes it two in a row for Rocket City and bumps their season record up to 12-3. As for Evangel Christian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-6 record this season.
Rocket City came out on top in a nail-biter against Evangel Christian when the teams last played back in January of 2023, sneaking past 33-31. Will Rocket City repeat their success, or does Evangel Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
