Baseball Recap: South Warren Has No Trouble Against Pensacola Catholic

South Warren made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pensacola Catholic, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Spartans put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 9-2 victory on Friday. Considering the Spartans have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Griffin Rardin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Austin Allen tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ty Croghan, who scored three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Gray Pearson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

South Warren kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matchups.

South Warren pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Pensacola Catholic, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-12.

Coming up, South Warren will head out to challenge Glasgow at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Pensacola Catholic, they will challenge Freeport at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Crusaders surely won't give up without a fight.
