The Grand Canyon Phantoms lost against the St. Michael Cardinals last Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Grand Canyon's tough 58-32 defeat to the Cardinals might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Grand Canyon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while the Cardinals are ranked 108th).
Several Phantoms players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaemie Jensen, who scored seven points along with nine steals and seven rebounds. Jensen is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xochitl Galvan, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Grand Canyon dropped their record down to 9-15 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for St. Michael, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 19-10.
Grand Canyon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. St. Michael will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Redskins at 11:00 a.m. Hopefully Red Mesa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 46 on Thursday.
