Seneca Valley is 8-1-1 against Gaithersburg since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Seneca Valley Screamin' Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Gaithersburg Trojans at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Seneca Valley has three straight wins, Gaithersburg has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Seneca Valley can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent game on Monday. They blew past Quince Orchard 71-35 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-18.
Seneca Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mina Hashemzadeh led the charge by scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Hashemzadeh is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. Brielle Watson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Seneca Valley used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Quince Orchard. And. Teagan Phillips made the most of the opportunity, scoring seven points along with two steals. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Meanwhile, Gaithersburg was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 48-44 to Einstein.
Seneca Valley is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Gaithersburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Seneca Valley against Gaithersburg in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 76-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Seneca Valley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
