Basketball Recap: Leon Skates Past Westside with Ease

Leon entered their tilt with Westside on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They claimed a resounding 58-25 win over the Westside Wolverines. The contest marked the Lions' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Leading Leon to victory were Sakari Hall and Tanner Owens. Hall almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards, while Owens dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds. Owens continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Grace Parker, who posted 15 points and five rebounds.

Leon was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Westside still got an impressive performance from Nicoletta Chretien, who put up 15 points. Chretien is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Mauriah Banks was another key player, putting up six points.

Leon pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for Westside, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Leon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 46-42 loss against Gadsden County on the 9th. As for Westside, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 44-35 victory against First Coast on the 12th.
