Softball Recap: West Mesquite Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

West Mesquite won against Spruce last Tuesday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Wranglers didn't even let the Seagoville Dragons on the board, marking the Wranglers' second-straight 17-0 shutout. The Wranglers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Amberly Cruz made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Clarissa Avila was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted four RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Julianna Guitierrez was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

West Mesquite kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.

West Mesquite is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Seagoville, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. West Mesquite is set to face off against their familiar foe North Mesquite at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Seagoville will challenge rival Spruce at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
