The Woodlawn Bears will be playing at home against the Mountain Pine Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Woodlawn faced Dermott in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Woodlawn took their game at home with ease, bagging a 70-20 victory over Dermott.
Meanwhile, Mountain Pine was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 44-38 to Genoa Central.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Zyon Wyatt, who rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Cale Slaten, who rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Woodlawn's win was their third straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 3-2. They've been dominating across those games too: they took their wins by an average of 41 points. As for Mountain Pine, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2.
Woodlawn came up short against Mountain Pine when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 38-28. Thankfully for Woodlawn, Jermaine Dobbins (who rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
